Agree 100%! Positive reinforcement + exercise= good AmStaff.

I get sick of ppl labeling a certain breed of dog as more aggressive or less aggressive…Some breeds are more ENERGETIC and high strung, this does not make them aggressive, I’ve seen pits that wouldn’t hurt a fly, and I’ve seen Labs that’ll rip your throat out..Calling a certain breed of dog more aggressive, or mean, is the exact same as saying a certain race of ppl do this or that, it’s racism 101 ppl..

no, staffs were teh first, they were bred from fighting boxers(now extinct) and terriers and some other breeds, the amstaff and teh apbt were bred from staffs imported to teh US. all three are ptbulls, all of them have been selectivedly bred to reduce aggressivness and gameness. american staffs are legal in the UK. the illegal are apbt, tosa inu, presa canarino and one more cant rmmbr

@connorbcfc1875
so basically the staffs u see in teh Uk nowadays are mostly weaker versions that are do not have gameness or as much strength. however ive been monitoring breeders and can see that some lines retain the qualities of teh original staffs and as a breeder demonstrated, can single handedly take on a bull on a rampage. the real pitbulls, are teh staffs

FaresDemon Posted on February 8, 2010 at 3:58 pm

@connorbcfc1875 the result was a dog that has more pushign than pulling power. that means it wudnt be as effective as a fighting breed which would need strength to bite and pull away. so ppl that say APBT were made to fight are wrong, they were made to look mean but were used to fight. however, the modern day staff here in teh UK has been selectively bred to nullify the fighting characteristics, and teh “show quality” standards are for that new breed of staff

@connorbcfc1875

the amstaff is basically a decendant of the staffordshire bull terrier which was imported to teh US in the early 1900, it was changed to give it a “mean look” this was done by crossing it with long legged dog breeds. the americanpitbull terrier had the same ancestor (the staffordhire) but was mixed with other breeds also for looks. the result is a dog with stronger hind legs and a taller posture with a rather bull dogy face.

yes they are less agressive.. the main difference is the temper. i have 2 amstaff 3 month old pups. and they are awesome yet.. they are playful. and tend to fight a bit.. wich im working on correcting that issue. other than that they are lovable..

Just to clarify some of the questions on here, there are American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, & Staffordshire bull terriers. The one breed that differs the most physically is the SBT which is very common in the UK but very uncommon in the US. Theyre much smaller than their American Cousins (APBT & AmStaffs) and very sweet natured. I have two and adore them to bits. They’re not a lazy breed though and require exercise like the other bully breeds or they become destructive

TmouniTidio Posted on February 8, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Oh so the Staffordshire Terrier are American Pit Bull Terrier with some small differenses (not on the image) but on the attitude?they are less aggressive etc??? thx for ur reply help

blastermitch Posted on February 8, 2010 at 9:40 pm

Pit Bull refers to the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Amstaff.

Amstaffs were bred from American Pit Bull Terriers. They’re basically the same dog but conforming to a standard and they have tried to breed the aggressiveness out.

In the USA you can register an Amstaff as a American Pit Bull Terrier, but not the other way round.

TmouniTidio Posted on February 8, 2010 at 9:47 pm

GuitarFreakBashing Posted on February 9, 2010 at 2:23 am

Thats not the absolute truth. They were taken along with industrial working class from england, ireland and scotland after the civil war in america. they exually took the bulls and terriers they had with them and mixed it up till they got the new breed they wanted. and that is the american staffordshire terrier
